Toyota 2UZ-FE Engine Problems
The 4.7-liter Toyota 2UZ-FE V8 engine first appeared in the 1998 Land Cruiser as an option on that model year. The engine’s output ranges from 228 to 271 hp, depending on the year and model. Engines with VVT-i, such as the 2UZ-FE with VVT-i introduced later, are generally more powerful.

3 Common Toyota 2UZ-FE Engine Problems

Cracks in the 4.7L V8’s exhaust manifold are most often heard as a ticking noise. It is also the only symptom that the majority of people will experience. The 2UZ-FE engine bay, on the other hand, may have an unpleasant odor due to the presence of raw exhaust gas. An entirely catless exhaust has a similar but less pronounced odor.

Water pump replacement is a common requirement throughout the life of an engine. The water pump on a Toyota 4.7L V8 is inexpensive and simple to replace while the timing belt is out.
The 2UZ-FE water pump can also start slowly leaking coolant, which is not uncommon. Minor leaks don’t necessitate immediate repair. No matter what, you should get a new water pump as soon as possible.
